[She'd hesitated for a long time before even attempting this, but there was only so much denial one person could muster when words started appearing on paper by themselves because she'd written a few numbers at the top of the page.]

I'm not sure if anybody's actually seeing this or if I'm finally losing it, but something's going on and this is the only place I can see that might have answers.

So, if this really is happening what's next? Do we even have a plan?

I saw somebody say something about mines, but nobody seems to want to go into detail about it. Is there anything I should know?

Nothing. Only that it's showing up on a piece of paper thanks to some kind of magic number that appeared in my head and that's enough to get my interest.

[And the memories, but she's not revealing that just yet. She's still not sure who she's talking to and isn't ready to start going on about how her brain is apparently making up monsters.]

[Tapping it actually works because... of course it works. Why wouldn't it work? She's having a conversation with somebody using a pad of paper and a pencil. And it isn't even a mechanical pencil!]

[There's silence from her end for a long time as she reads. The part about the conspiracy with the cops sends a shiver down her spine but doesn't change much. Talking to the police was never an option for her anyway. Still, it's awhile before a message from her appears again.]

It's not very easy to explain (or maybe I'm just not very good at explaining it).

Many of us went to explore these mines and when we were down there we met someone, everyone's referring to him as a "sage". He prophesied that we were needed to "save the world" - make of that what you will - and then there was something like an earthquake. Animals went berserk and attacked a lot of people.

There were things that weren't... exactly animals either. The whole thing was pretty horrible. That's why nobody wants to talk about it. I'm over it as much as anyone can be, I suppose, so I don't mind if you've got any specific questions. I'll try to help out.

So a homeless guy in a cave called himself a sage, and told you that we were supposed to save the world. No offense, but I don't exactly buy that.

[It's a pretty good thing she isn't using any kind of video here. Otherwise Shou would have seen her nearly jump out of her chair when the paper in front of her started talking to her. As it is, it takes a little while to regain her composure.]

My talking notepad isn't doing much to convince me of that. Protect it from what?

I'd call the expectation that we all can naïve.

I think, for what it's worth, that there is safety better found in small, considered groups than there is in larger groups. The latter tend to lack accountability due to a (perceived) increase of anonymity.

So far it seems like the safest thing to do is not get involved in the first place.

Thanks to his actions. [ nevertheless: ] Remaining aware of where and what is and isn't safe within the city and wholly, truly devoid of involvement will be a commendable feat. If you can manage it, you'll have my admiration.

Fine, you've got a point. But that still only means I should make sure to check this thing to see what's going on.

I do try.

But in other words: it would appear we've a degree of agreement with one another. Though... regardless of whatever that means, whatever your independence leads to and whatever's "next", I do wonder if impartiality is truly possible. Whilst everyone here has been drawn to it because of a number, one can't help but wonder how many individuals there are out there with numbers who haven't given in and found this network.

And what that says of us.
