He's surprised that she's asking, but he's not as sensitive about the subject as many assume him to be. It's certainly not pleasant, but it's a fact of his life, and the scars get older every day. He glances aside, hoping that his doppel doesn't make this harder than it absolutely has to be.

"Five... almost six, years? This May," he says softly. "So, a long time. My tendons and nerves were damaged very badly and for awhile I could only move my thumb and one finger on each hand. It was very impractical. It made finding work extremely difficult."
