WHO: theodore ([personal profile] svanire) & aeron ([personal profile] edhwierfan)
WHAT: a missing student creates opportunity for cultivating cr
WHERE: oh idk. a local park... that'll work.
WHEN: today (may 31)

[ months ago, theodore requested that he be granted permission to take the kids on a field trip to the zoo. just something special to celebrate the end of the year and their passing on to the big kids grades now. since he'd given the announcement to the class several weeks ago, there had been an excited buzz that never left. and, admittedly, theodore got swept up into it as well. it was hard not to when he looked at their shining, excited faces.

the entire week he had spent teaching them about the animals they would see and gave them worksheets on colors and shapes and various other things. and finally on friday morning, the kids were ready to go with packed lunches and hats and reeking of sunscreen. a small handful of parents came along to chaperon—to which theodore was eternally grateful—he loved those kids, but they were a handful when they were bursting with energy.

somehow, they'd all made it out relatively unscathed—a few spilled drinks, some skinned knees and dried tears, but overall a successful journey. mostly, he was just proud the kids didn't set something on fire or break anything...

they broke down for lunch at a nearby park, setting up shop nearby the pond there. everything was moving along without a hitch and theodore was pleased he was going to make this through without incident. that meant that next year they could do something, too. except, of course, things couldn't really go off without some sort of hitch.

as they all boarded the bus to go back to school, theodore did the head count and came up one short. twenty-six children, four adults including himself. number twenty-seven. he asks the parents to stay on the bus with the kids and he sprints off in search of the missing student—brendon. the last place he recalls seeing the precocious little brat was by the water's edge. and that makes his stomach twist in a most unpleasant way. ]

Brendon! [ there is an edge of anger in his voice as he calls out, though he keeps trying to wrangle it under control. ] Playtime is over, it's time to go back.

[While Theodore's frantically trying to locate his missing student a little distance away, Aeron finds himself unexpectedly saddled with the youngster on his lunch break.

He stands there awkwardly and clutches the book he was reading for a literature assignment as the boy wails, occasionally stopping to hiccup. Aeron's fairly sure the people passing by are giving him the most disapproving glares--for something that isn't even his fault! All right, so he might have been a little sharp when addressing the boy, but that was because he was about to drop right into the pond with the ducks he was so enamoured with. How was Aeron supposed to know the boy would burst into tears when he yanked him back and scolded him?

Aeron scans the area again, growing more and more frazzled with every minute that passes. Surely the parents, or chaperone, must be around somewhere, right?]
