[He doesn't remember when it became normal for Nadia to plant herself in the seat next to his every time there was partner work, but that was now a fact. She still asked, but he was starting to get ready to turn toward her recently before she even got to the table. It was a little scary, but also a nice feeling to have that sort of default.

Except today, there was one less student than usual. Did that one move away? Perhaps they were just sick. Ken didn't know, but he didn't think much of it before, after glancing at Nadia, he raised his voice to call to the classmate whose name he didn't even know, hoping that Nadia at least would remember.]

[Group projects--the bane of students in classes without, or just without period, close friends.

It was actually sort of relief and sort of trepidation to Basil when he was called on by Ken]

[Nadia has no shortage of friends, to be honest, but they all have others who they can work with for projects, and Ken is her dear friend so she will gladly join him.

And to see Ken inviting someone else to work with them is an amazing thing--Nadia never thought she'd see it, to be honest, with how closed off he could be. She swings her legs in her seat a little bit as she smiles at Basil.]

Splitting the work three ways will make things easier, won't it? [Come pull up a chair.]

The number in the class is uneven, anyway. We don't mind.

[Here, come on, this space is open. He'll turn the worksheet so that all three of them can read it.]

[Basil hurriedly gathers his things and brings them and a chair over to the open space Ken and Nadia provided.

He looked over at the paper briefly] Do you two have an idea on where we should start?

Perhaps it would be best if we came up with a theme to focus on! [Nadia's a good student, and she knows what she's doing most of the time.] This way we will be able to tie everything back to it to make sure it fits.

That's what I was thinking, too. There's a lot to this reading, so there's no way we'd be able to go over all the details.

Basil, right?

That sounds like a good plan to me. Do we each want to pick a section to focus on and then combine them later?

Ah, yes, I'm Basil. You are...Ken? and Nadia.

[She nods, her blue and yellow cloud hair bouncing as she does.]

Why don't we work together on it? It's the end of the year, and it will make things easier, and we can talk together.

[He's amazed Basil remembers his name.]

We're going to have to present it by the end, so we should work on it together or at least share things while we go.

[Well Ken sits near-ish him, so it's easy enough to overhear people like the teacher calling him]

Top is fine with me for a start. [Though looking at the list it's rather long for only doing it in class...] If we don't get it all done, should we plan to meet somewhere later?

I can ask the teacher for a pass to the library after school, but if that isn't feasible, perhaps we can go to my house?

Are your parents okay with that? [He has to ask, even though he knows Nadia's parents are rarely ever home.]

We can probably get a bit more than half of it done in class today and it's not due for a couple more classes, but I'd rather get it done faster.

I would not want to inconvenience you, but sooner would be better to get this done. If it would not bother your parents. [Lord only knows how many other classes will spring projects on students at this time of year]

They probably will not be home until late, it's fine. [She swings her legs again.] We have a lot of space in the dining room, too.

The same for mine. It's just my dad and I and he works late.

[But that's not an issue until class is over! He leans in to circle some stuff on the paper.]

It is my mother and I at home, and my aunt, uncle and cousins are always over. My house is not the best for projects.

[ Dutifully he follows Ken's herding and shifts more towards doing work ]
