why do these things keep happening

Nick'd just finished interviewing a witness that turned out to be not a witness at all - anonymous phone tips could be annoyingly hit or miss at times - and he'd decided that deserved actually taking a lunch break today, instead of grabbing a granola bar or eating take out over paperwork. He'd been looking around for a good place to go nearby, and texting Yuji to see if his partner wanted him to bring anything back, when he ran into Barnaby.

Which was perfect, actually, taking lunch breaks alone was pretty boring, and Nick hadn't had much time to catch up with him since that whole thing went down with the alien.

So they'd found a cafe close by, and settled in to grab lunch.
