As anyone's noticed from Winter's update, we arrived in one piece. With our pulses/echoes intact, but there's some caveats to that. So... a quick rundown, for anyone interested:

Upon leaving Locke City's barrier, our pulses were not entirely LOST - rather, they were weakened severely. Memories of the Network and regained memories of other lives became fuzzier. I didn't try to transform, but I imagine it wouldn't have worked, although my transformation device remained. But there was still some remnant, or trace of things - but it was like trying to pull back thoughts veiled through static. Just not... QUITE there, but I knew they SHOULD have been. It's a weird sensation, but... it's important. One can hypothesize that the more of these light there are, the wider WE can reach. At the very least, it's enough to keep you on track if you travel outside.

Everything returns in full at a certain point when hitting the Las Vegas barrier. There's a difference, however: This barrier is much smaller. A cursory walkabout leads me to believe it doesn't go terribly far away from the Vegas strip.

The hotel offer is entirely legitimate. If you have super powers.

Unfortunately, that walkabout also turned up one disturbing thing - I spotted a creature that most definitely should not have been there. A hairy little creature. No one else seemed to notice it, and it took off before I could get close enough. It was before my time on the Network, but based on what I know... I think it was a Vermini.

As an side: You can smell CLOUDS cigarette smoke from casinos without even being relatively close to them. I practically feel the need to walk around this place with an air freshener as a necklace.

[OOC - Small note to roommates: By the time of posting this, Lily would have informed any of them of all this. Anyone in that vicinity is free to harass her via action for the evening time, as well.]

I was gonna do a post saying some things, but you doing it was probably a better idea.

[Lily lowers her iPad, sitting back in a rather comfortable looking chair. She smiles a bit sheepishly.]

Sorry, my mind's just been running a mile a minute since we hit the barrier. [She sets the tablet aside and gives a defeated little sigh.] And then after walking around all afternoon... When my brain does that, I start to get a little batty if I don't write it all out.

[Let her tell you of the journals she used to keep as a kid.

Well, that sounds like confirmation that I wouldn't be able to help over there to me.

Why is that, precisely?

[Lily tilts her iPad to one side, and her head to the other, before she straightens it back up.]

It'd be here with or without us. We're here to try and get rid of it, in fact.

My singing works by creating a special kind of waveform called a Dynamic Hymmnowave, or just Dynamic H-wave, that travels back to a base station, where it's converted into a Dynamic Detail Wave, or Dynamic D-wave, which comes back to me and manifests as a dark energy kind of thing.

If this echo dampening outside of the areas is working like you say it is, I don't think there's any way the signal would stay intact, since I'm pretty sure the base station is here in Locke.

That worked pretty damn well for Locke, didn't it?

[ pause ]

That was sarcasm. We were doin' just fine without your meddling junk.

I see. Yes, I see where that might be a bit problematic.

As it stands however, there are obviously still threats in Locke City which need to be dealt with too. So it's honestly better that some people are there to take care of that.

Too bad, really. I know some great outlet malls southeast of here in the city.

[She furrows her brow.]

What happened in Locke wasn't anything we could have really foreseen. However, now we do have a better idea of what's going on, and we're not going to just sit idly by and watch the same thing happen to Vegas, or anywhere else.

[She shakes her head.] The snake awakening as it did is a show of what can happen if we don't do enough. We, all of us - the Numbered. We're all in this mess together, like it or not.

We have the power to do something, so we will. We need to. I think it's the whole reason we have this power in the first place.

[Lily raises an eyebrow, shifting where she's sitting to look across at Kari.] Nothing's really stopping you, you know. If anything, you might be able to do that outside the barrier without having to worry as much.

I'm just glad to see something other than corn fields and deserts.

Kinda sucks that I'm in Vegas and I'm not 21, though.

Hmn.

[Lily lifts her head up a bit.]

You don't want to waste your money on gambling, Annie.

No kidding. My reputation as an antisocialite may never repair itself after what that doppelgänger did to it.

No, I mean I'm in the ultimate party town and I can't even drink.

[Ah, the evil mirror twin again. Seemed to keep popping up on her radar, much more than she'd like...]

I can imagine. I had some... experience with at least two variations of people close to me there.

["Experience" is a way to put it.]

[Her head tilts up further.]

Alcohol is overrated, too. You need to be on your A-Game here, so why would you want to dull your mind like that?

That reminds me. What are we doing now that we're here?

[Her head lowers.] Investigate whatever we can, to start with.

The Vermini popping up can't be a terribly good sign, and we just got here.

Gonna be honest, I don't actually know how to investigate for something like this, past "walk around and hope we run into trouble".

I'm about 500% sure you're completely full of bullshit, kiddo. Legit, like what are you gonna do? No offense-- I'm asking real questions here, y'know?

[ He sighs and runs a hand through his hair, obviously not used to trying to articulate himself. ]

You gonna pull some Scooby Doo bit and investigate around? Gonna pop in the LVMPD's office and check around for corruption? You're a kid. You still in high school or somethin'? I dunno; I suck at telling ages. Always have.

[ huff getting sidetracked ]

Like, okay cool, you fucked up your city, which it's sad. It's totally sad, and I'm sorry, 'cause I heard some people died. But you're goin' to come here and stir up some shit, just like you did in Locke, and I'm totally sure that no one here wants that.

Ah. Well, from what I can tell mirror-me didn't hurt anyone.

I meant as a place to get away from Mob Central. Without the constant worry that something isn't right. *sigh* I haven't gone soft, have I?

First the lights, now the Vermini? Like all the bullshit just moved to make a fresh start....
