Three Jewels: Opals Along a Circlet [Video | Water Trough]

[Cinderella is leaning straight into her trough once by the time connection is made, her ears pushed back - and she's talking in something like a taught stage-whisper.]

I am nearing the end of my patience.

There is a cat.

In my yard. Hanging about my stable. Oh, it hasn't done a thing! Hasn't caused any trouble so far as I'm aware and -- it hasn't gone away for a minute.

And you - [The blue-gray cat on the network whose name she couldn't read.] - if you're there, my friend, this is not to say I have a thing against cats. I would go so far as to say that I like them! Having a new cat neighbor would be dandy, but here's the thing!

Last week, I went to most restless sleep one night after hearing that horrid howling around my masters' house. And ju-u-ust barely! I don't think that I could have slept at all if others hadn't been hearing the same without any other trouble. But when I woke the next morning, quite suddenly, there it was, and it hasn't gone anywhere since.

Whatever is the meaning of this?

[A pause. After which the next part is blurted out quickly.] And also, to either of those two good gentle-stallions who spoke with me before, if the offer still stands, I say I would be most obliged for reading lessons indeed.

And now there's a talking horse.

[Whoever this rude newbie is, she's pinching the bridge of her nose to convey her sheer not-knowing-how-to-deal-with-this.]

And of course I've tried talking with the cat. At this point I've gotten not a word in response!

Well, then I suppose it's either rude or can't talk - possibly it will learn later? Or it's something else entirely. It's not one of those weird-looking animals, is it? I thought those had gone away.

You're mad at a cat. Sounds like something you'd get your talking pig friend to mediate in most of the movies I've seen with talking horses.

And what would a pig be expected to do that I can't?

I can hardly be mad at the cat, anyhow! Disturbed by? [Ear flick.] Now, that's not my fault. I'd never seen the creature in my life until the so-called haunting thought it would pass by my masters' house. All of a sudden, it's here, and it's gone nowhere far.

[She freezes for a bit, eyes dart to the side, and she turns away from the trough and out of sight for a while before swiveling back into view, though her energy's still directed in the opposite direction of the water's surface.] Mm - hm. Still here.

Well, I haven't met a particular many cats, but it certainly doesn't look nearly as - "off" - as the animals that appeared when this all began.

[She freezes momentarily. Her head turns over her shoulder, and then back.] Would you kindly give me a moment please?

[Is this who she thinks it is? Surely, though it would have been nice to have a face to place to the voice both times.]

Oh - hm - right - gentleman, then! A pleasure to hear your voice, Mr. - well now, come to think of it I don't believe I have your name, but would you?

...You are suggesting that you come here.

[She certainly bumbled through that one - but the prospect, of meeting another one in person, and getting this started at long last no less!]

Appeared unannounced around my stable in the dark of a very unusual night. It could be a monster in disguise.

I am! I've been teaching my niece, I know a little of how it goes. Of course, that would still require getting there somehow. And knowing where "there" is.

Well, if you could learn numbers and find the relevant one, and bring it back, that'd certainly be a start, right? Generally property does come with a number.

Well - sir Julien~! - I suppose I'll see what I can do, but the number's not strictly necessary, is it...? I can say for certain that it's a tall powder blue house. I don't think that there are too many nearby, but they are all around the same size, the sun sets on my side, and it's home to a family of four.

Humans, that is.

It's a bit of a vague thing to go by, is all... Hmm. You know, is there anything shiny and portable about that you wouldn't look too terribly suspicious carrying? If you got something like that and told me your number I could call you up specifically and see through it, I think. Better shown than told, right?

I have a couple friends on the posh side but we're not exactly close. Do you know the names of your people? First and last?

They're called the Bell family, anyway! I don't know the first names of Mr. and Mrs. Bell, I'm afraid. Their foals are Linda - who is eight years old - and Michael, who is six.

If you'll hang on a moment while I search around for an item that fits the bill... My number by the by is four, two, three, four, seven, one, one, six, four, four.

Bell, huh... It sounds familiar, but there's a number of families by that name around. I might be able to find something...

Tha~ank you. [Lilted, before she trots off with her neck swaying and head turning this way and that to get a good look at the stable. Momentarily the transmission shows nothing, and as it ripples to settling, it goes blank.

She trots out to the center of the pasture and peers around to spot something shining in the sun, if she can, then out to the fence, canters the perimeter scanning back to her left and between the plants, and when she finishes with nothing, breaks away with stomping steps and a huff.

Hang on - perhaps the patio? She looks through the wire gate and - hello! There is a device on the garden table, compact with purple sides. And a screen. It's Linda's. Silly of her to forget that Linda's got a tendency to leave the thing out here in her search for an object she can actually name!

Cinderella pushes the gate open and moves up to the table.]

Got - on~ne~!

[And she slowly, delicately slides the thing between her teeth.

She trots back to the stable to display it - and nickers with annoyance on finding the trough blanked out. She choppily stamps out the "four" into the water, and squeaks and holds her head up on the splashing, and finishes the number.

When connection is re-established, she repeats through her teeth:]

Got it.

[Julien passes the time by playing Angry Birds, not wanting to be drawn into a new conversation or anything else he'd be unwilling to interrupt, right now.]

There we go! One moment.

[He's a rapid texter. A moment later his voice sounds from Linda's borrowed device, a little tinnier than out of the trough.]

Hello? Haha, looks like it worked!

[She starts a moment when his voice sounds. Her eyes flick down to what of the device she can see at the sides of her snout, and sets it on the ground.]

Oh! Excellent!

Shall I give you a view of the house, now?

You can see, can't you?

[Eh, I think he was listening to Erasure, actually. aaaaaallways]

[Julien's gone to video, but just how visible he is on a tiny screen to a horse's eyes is debatable.]

Sure. It's a little... Well, it's a good thing I'm not prone to motion sickness, hah! But it's fine. At your convenience, milady.

[Indeed not much. She turns her head in this angle and another in this spot and that - and leaves it at taking his word for it.] Yes, I'm afraid that that's the best I can do with a device made for humans.

But! That's that! I'll show you the house.

Yeah, that's fair! I'll have to think of alternatives for later... [He's stumped for the moment. Something a horse could carry and hide with a reflective surface and some way to input numbers. Hmm.]

Okay! Lead on, then.

[Affirmative toss of her head, she noses the device in position to pick it up, takes it in her teeth again, and high-steps out of the stable - it swings a bit on her hold until she stops, and angles her head down a bit.

A dark blue-gray roof under the sky and a little stripe of house under that is visible.]

Sthreeh it...?

["See it", rather.]

Uh... yes, I see it! Can you get any closer?

[She bobs her head to nod, takes a few strides closer - and, it striking her to, proceeds as far as the garden fence, curving her head down to pan the device until it's angled in her teeth as close to perpendicular as it's likely to get.

She holds it put there listening into the device hoping that her waiting for another requested move or confirmation of location comes across - ought she do that again and slower? Do it again at another spot?]

Hmm. Think you can go around the perimeter of your... what, pasture? I want to see what you can see is outside it.
