13th Frost | Action (Closed)
Who: Toushirou and Nora
When: March 31
Where: At the middle school
What: An army of tiny toothpicks terrorizes the cafeteria and these two finally realize the other is Numbered.
[It's only lunchtime and he's already about had it with people today. Too crowded -- he's got a broken arm, people; be more careful!. Too noisy -- hello, lingering concussion here; keep it down, idiots. And too much general stupidity that occasionally has a basis in what the Numbered deal with, but is mostly just middle-school nonsense.
[Oh. And people asking endless questions about what he did to his hair. Why is this even so interesting to people? Don't they have lives of their own? He's on his way to the cafeteria in a decidedly nonplussed mood when he spots one of his classmates coming up beside him. Oh god, not Nora. He can't deal with her right now.]
Go away.

Go away.

It's okay, she knows he doesn't mean it. They're both going to the cafeteria, and clearly he wants company. Deep down. Probably.]
Hey, Toushi!
[Also he's gonna be 'Toushi' now. Toushiro is too long. You're welcome.]
I like the new look. Going for a punk-rebel kind of thing?
no subject
Don't call me that. And no. I told you to go away. [He knows so many people that don't listen when he says that, it's a wonder he expects it to ever happen.]
no subject
Aw, c'mon! You don't want to sit all alone at lunch do you? That's boring.
[And now that they've cleared up that little snag...]
So anyway, do you own a leather jacket? 'Cause if not you should get one. It would totally go with your new rebel thing.
no subject
[He unconsciously speeds up his walking. You know, like that's going to help or something.] Do you even listen to me when I talk?
[Punk rebel? Why are people so interested in his hair? It's not even that weird a colour.]
no subject
Sure I do. But you're always saying the same stuff. 'No this' and 'no that' and 'Go away I'm busy being all grumpy about things.'
[That's basically what he's been saying, right?]
That's why you need someone to cheer you up.
[So thoughtful.]

[The cafeteria is sadly more noisy than the hallway. On the one hand, this may help to drown Nora out a bit. On the other, it's still noise. He grits his teeth as the increase in volume pounds through his head. It's not as bad as his spiritual-sense induced headaches when he's around Phillip, but still no fun to deal with.]
I don't need cheering up.
[What he needs is to navigate the crowd and hopefully lose her in it. Unfortunately, the broken arm means he can't squeeze through like normal. He's kind of stuck with her now.]
no subject
[Simple as that. And Nora is entirely too nimble to lose that easily. She does give his broken arm a look of concern though.]
Does that hurt a lot? Do you need me to help carry your stuff?
no subject
I've been managing fine the past couple of weeks, and I'll keep managing fine. I've still got an arm that works. [Not that he can really stop her if she insists.]
[He winces again at a shriek and then looks annoyed as all hell as a full bottle of soda is chucked across their line of vision. At the moment, it doesn't register that anything weird is going on. He's already had an encounter with an item monster, so there's no hollowed out feeling of a Pulse to warn him of anything going on. As far as he's concerned, some idiot has decided to start up a food fight.
[As opposed to throwing things at a mass of tiny, animated toothpicks. Going to take a minute before he notices those.]
Ooh, I forgot she'd be getting an echo from these. I better think of one quick. ^^;
[Whoosh! That soda bottle came out of nowhere! And she completely forgets what she was saying. But instead of irritated, she grins with excitement.]
Hey, check it out! A food fight!
[She was about to look for something to throw back, but then she notices the toothpicks. Which seem to be animate. And swarming across the lunchroom like a tiny wooden army.]
Whoa! What the heck are those?!?
no subject
[Why does she think this is a good thing? What kind of brain-dead moron thinks a food fight is a good thing? This is why he doesn't like most kids his age, man.
[But he blinks at her exclamation and finally notices the . . . army of toothpicks wielding other toothpicks marching across the floor.] Great, so now it's toothpicks, too. [Because that's not suspicious phrasing or anything. He will later blame his slip on his concussion. It's a handy excuse.
[He just wishes it could explain the toothpick army, but he knows better.]
Sorry for the late. orz
[She's about to hurl lunch tray at them when she's suddenly blindsided by series of very strange memories. All her previous echos had been objects or things she otherwise didn't notice. This however. This was just weird. Apparently past her used to play house with some weirdo?
So, yeah. She just picked up a lunch tray and raised it above her head, only to space out while the toothpicks are still marching.
What is even wrong with this girl?]Ah, I was late first. :P
He's asked himself that in every conversation they've ever had and he still has no answer.[He blinks when she spaces out. Having both experienced and witnessed Pulses going off for a year now, he knows the signs. Her? Seriously? No good could come from this.
[There's still the approaching toothpick problem -- what is his life anymore? -- and maybe in all the chaos, it won't be noticed if he makes things a little easier on everyone. A slight wave of his hand, and a thin sheet of ice forms under the toothpicks, trapping them against the ground. Okay, so the toothpicks themselves freeze entirely, too. He doesn't have perfect precision, here. These are tiny targets.]
Hey. Snap out of it, will you?
no subject
[Nora shakes her head to clear it and looks back at the frozen toothpicks in surprise.]
Did you do that? That's so cool!
[She's impressed. Also jealous. But more importantly, maybe she should worry about what to do with the toothpick before the ice melts...]
no subject
[In a low hiss:] Shut up! If I wanted the whole school to know about this, they would've ages ago. Just . . . throw that thing and crush 'em while they're frozen or something!
no subject
And he's probably right about the toothpicks.]
Right! I'm on it!
[Instead of just throwing it she tosses the tray on top of a group of them and then jumps on it, using her weight to crush them.]
Ha!
no subject
[And crushed they are, very much so in fact. Ice is good for that. Under difference circumstances, even the giant snake itself had been weakened by it. Enough to get the end of its tail off. Of course, giant snakes don't like that and that's why he's in a cast now.
[He doesn't even acknowledge her crow of triumph, instead scanning the room for more . . . thoothpicks. Nope, still not quite over that part.] Anywhere else that you can see?
no subject
[She's pointing at a group of toothpicks that are marching on the cafeteria line. They seem to be swarming around the food, poking at anyone who gets too close.]
The evil toothpick army is holding our supplies hostage! We have to stop them!
[Only half serious here. She's actually having fun. Finally she gets to do cool superhero stuff. Or a reasonable facsimile, anyway.]
