[Guess who's face pops up late afternoon on the 24rd? It's none other than Karl! He has a few things to say and a very important discovery to present.]

Many of you no doubt are aware of the pink lights presently in Las Vegas. Whatever this means or what may come about as a result, we must do our best to exert caution. Though we may have defended the city, the destruction of that creature had been the enemy's goal, something it will behoove all of us to remember.

[Some grumbling actually comes in the background, grumbling that sounds like one Melissa Lyre, one VERY UNHAPPY Melissa Lyre. Karl spares a somewhat apologetic glance over his shoulder before continuing.]

Words of wisdom aside, I've another reason for contacting the Network today. Following viewing the lights on TV, I received the ability necessary to test a hypothesis I posed some time ago.

[What great hypothesis might this be? A very important one!! Some very VERY melted plastic gets held up for all the world to see. What it may have been before it met its tragic fate, the world may never know. Actually, it was a plastic container but it definitely no longer serves that purpose.]

Plastic does not, in fact, protect against magic, fire magic in particular. Glass tables are also rather ineffective against it.

[RIP plastic container and another of his tables. Ah well, it was for the sake of science and hypothesis testing! And this hypothesis may have gotten tested right in front of the angry lady grumbling in the background. Really, why is she so upset? It's not as though she's...... afraid of fire. Oh... Whoops. Karl mentally slaps himself at that forgetfulness, a slap practically visible as he ends the connection]

It sounds as though Melissa required the hot chocolate fairly frequently.

[A question thinly veiled as a statement. Karl's curious. He knows nothing about Melissa's life prior to being on the force.]

Let's put it this way, if I charged her a dollar a cup, I would be very rich now.

[ Eugen is less hostile to him after their unplanned meetup, so he's a lot more willing to divulge personal information about Melissa, especially if they are embarrassing in nature. Revenge is pretty sweet sometimes. ]

She had troubles while growing up?

[Appreciating the lack of hostility! And the embarrassing information. She definitely has embarrassing dirt on him so it only fair he get some of her, right? Right.]

Trouble is her middle name. I thought you would have gotten that down by now. [ Note the present tense, Karl.

Absolutely. Eugen is pretty sure she has no qualm about airing his dirty laundry, so he's not about to spare her when he has the chance to. ]

So, what were you? Magician?

Fair enough.

[Present tense noted. He just assumed Eugen meant like troubles trouble and nothing just being trouble. Though Eugen can't see it, that last part gets a definite eyebrow raise. A magician?]

Excuse me?

[He rolls his eyes at that but it's not like Karl can see it. ]

You can use magic.

[Sorry, Eugen, no one's ever called him a magician before! Took him by surprise.]

I can, though I can also wield a blade with ease. Either the other me had been something other than a magician or one with odd hobbies.

[ Someone has to start. ]

Interesting. Some sort combat mage maybe? At least you don't have to worry about being disarmed with magic as back up.

Something of the sort, it seems. And though true, the magic possesses a flaw, namely requiring time to cast it.

Maybe it would become easier with practice? I don't know. You can try asking other people with magic skill if they know of any way to reduce the casting time or you can figure out the timing in using it. Probably won't easy either way.

Practice and hoping for further magic related pulses are likely the best bet. Though others may possess magic abilities, they may be entirely unlike my own.

I suppose from what I've seen, the variations does appear to be somewhat bizarre... In any case, is she better now?

Bizarre and seemingly limitless. No one else but myself might be capable of using this form of magic. She's settled down considerably, yes.
