[ It's not often Kallie makes an initial, non-private post to the network, but - true to the same form as her previous attempts, she jumps right into things, her tone quiet but tense. ]

Yeah, I don't think for a second that this is over. In less than a couple weeks, it'll have been a year since the numbers first started working for us. This network.

... We still don't know where it came from, but. It's still here. People are still feeling pulses.

[ She takes another quick breath, but then... that's all. Suddenly, she's a lot angrier than she was a few moments earlier- half because just look at the state of the damn city now, and half because... none of this still makes any sense to her. Of course, she herself recognizes it's possible she's out of the loop even more than newer folk, given her almost stubborn at times detachment... though that's definitely not something that makes her feel any better.

To be honest, she's not entirely certain where she was even going with this. She just felt it needed to be vented anyway.

After all, today's the one year anniversary of her very first Echo. Somehow, she doesn't feel like celebrating. ]

This has been happening for almost a year? It doesn't ... die off, or diminish, at any point? Fuck. How do you stay sane?

[ She makes a short hmph like a laugh, though in the end she doesn't really find any of this funny at all. ]

[ Likewise, her tone has a lightness to it that's obviously faked, though it's quickly tipped towards sardonic instead by the time she's gotten through naming the year.

The latter questions just kind of... make her frown to herself, at least at first. ]

[ Plus the part where she'd have to explain why she was leaving, and then also figure out a way to convince her idiot non-Echoed self to stay away. But even so... she's not really thinking of that as hard now as she might have before. ]

You'd think by now we'd have some sort of clue why this is happening. The snake is dead, but nothing's over, so even if it was a source of things happening, it can't be the only one.

Something like that. [ A quiet huff. ] From now on your life is ruined forever... April Fool's!

[ Except... not. God is she glad nobody seems to really remember (or is willing to bring up) how utterly stubborn she was at first about how it had to be a prank of some sort. ]

That one guy said the police or whatever already know there's more to come and the snake only helps.

No reason to believe threat gone. Alien spoke as if subordinate - implies master or commander. Now that subordinate removed - implications obvious.

A whole year. [ There's nothing particularly comforting or shocked about the way he says it. It just kind of is. ] We did something incredible, but now we have to think... what next, don't we?

People aren't really thinking it's over, are they?

Defense against what? Can't image what that snake would have been defending with how it was berserking through the city. Or how the pulses/flashbacks/echos/whatever the fucks are doing anything but causing chaos.

I wish... you were wrong. But I know that you're p-probably right. I haven't been here as long, but... I'm still worried. Is this the calm before the storm? What... will h-happen to us?

[Some of her recent confidence is... taking a bit of a vacation. Sure, they'd won, but now that Kallie mentioned it... what happened next?]

She ends up blowing this off until the answer hits her the next day. ]

[ Kind of annoyed, but she can't lie even mentally about not being curious about this. It's inaudible, yes, but she frowns to herself as her initial emotions and mind conflict. ]

Hmn...

[ That's no hum of thoughtfulness, though. She's all kinds of uncomfortable and still nursing a flare of irritated frustration-- and although she naturally won't outright admit it: fear, too. Worry about this impending future of theirs. ]

... All of this was bad enough.

Hopefully nobody here, but...

[ A quick pause. Just imagine the irritated gesture the woman is certainly making right now, in lieu of being able to come up with the words she wants immediately. ]

Have you seen the news?

I don't know.

[ Tired. Almost a year of being exposed to this stuff, but that certainly doesn't spell any sort of seniority when it comes to understanding it. Best guess? "Something bad." Yeah. ]
