What: Getting her usual check-ups and enjoying being out of the house for a while.

[Park: Closed to Philip]
[ The first batch of appointments are done for the day, and honestly? Sam's ready for a breather. The constant being helped in and out of one of the hospital's cheelchairs, the exercises, response tests... It's a lot! So when she's finally given a moment to relax Sam knows exactly where she wants to be wheeled: a nearby park just a block or so off from the main hospital grounds.

It's huge or grand or anything but it's outside and the cooler, fresh air makes her feel better already. Ultimately she asks to be set near one of the benches along the paths that run through it, and it's from there she'll sit with a blanket over her lap and for the moment just enjoy things as they are. ]



[Evening: Hospital (OPEN)]
[ ...And then later it's back to a few more appointments. Mostly routine stuff followed by a consultation by her family doctor but it does take a while for everything to get compiled and set up so Sam decides to busy herself with her 3DS while she waits both between appointments and after, eventually winding up near the cafeteria. Her aide's run off to fetch something for her to eat (since ew, hospital food).

At least there's no more tests to be done by that point so she's able to wear her clothes like normal and sit at an actual table, chair folded up and off to one side. ]

[It's probably still too cold to really take Gloria for a long walk, but... Phillip doesn't really care. She wants out, so he'll take her out! He promised his parents he wouldn't be long, but it looks like the golden retriever has other ideas.

They start walking sort of past the area where Sam is sitting before Gloria decides she wants to sniff this person. And seeing as Phillip is half her size, he gets dragged.]

Whoah, Gloria! [Too late! Sam has a dog sniffing her now.] I'm really sorry! Usually she doesn't do that...

[With her dad in the hospital at the moment, Yoko hasn't had time to do a ton of her regular volunteer work. The kids deserve her at her best--and she's anything but that right now. She's on her way back from dropping off dinner that didn't come on a tray--sure, Dad was drugged up, but he didn't deserve that, right?

That said, he's being more incoherent and obnoxious than usual today, and so she makes her way down to the cafeteria to maybe do homework and eat her salad.

She notices Sam just as she sets her backpack down on the table, and she grins. She wouldn't call herself Sam's friend, given that they've only spoken in passing, but she's been nice the few times they've spoken. Setting down the bag with her food, she nears her from the front, though quietly. She's not quite sneaking up on her, but if she manages to surprise her, she'll be pleased.]

Hi, Sam! ...it is Sam, right? [What if she got it wrong oh crap.]

[ It makes for a comical sight, watching some poor kid get pulled along by their dog. Sam just wasn't expecting that he'd get dragged over to her, and with a slightly surprise look she shifts her legs closer together (all the movement she's really able to make with them) and leans back a bit--just in case. Some dogs liked to jump after all. ]

Oh--no, it's okay... [ She just looks a little startled. ]

Huh? [ She's been engrossed enough in her game that the sudden sound of her name does make her head snap out like she's been startled, and for a second she's confused because she'd been expecting her aide. It's not often anyone else actually talks to her after all.

But a moment just to catch her wits and Sam realizes she recognizes Yoko's face...though not necessarily her name, and she feels a little guilty for it. ]

--Oh! Hi, yes. Sorry!

[Gloria knows better than to jump, at least. She'll just sit next to Sam and sniff, and maybe lick her hand if given the chance.]

Gloria, sit. [Oh wait she was going to do that anyway... oh well.] Uh, she's really nice, if you want to pet her.

Are you sure it's okay? She won't be upset...?

[ Sam knows it's silly to worry; Gloria appears well enough behaved albeit a little enthusiastic. It's just the notion of actually being able to reach out a pet a dog just as easily as she might do anything else that's a little daunting.

And exciting, but she tries not to let it show on her face as she fusses her hands in her lap. ]

[The hospital, fortunately, wasn't a place that was too familiar to Shuuya. He rarely got seriously sick, so heading to the hospital was a bit like a small event. That said, he was a little nervous. His mom assured him it was just a check-up. For him, it didn't take very long for the examination to finish. He was ushered outside once it was over, told to wait for his mom.

Half an hour in, he gets restless and asks a staff member where the cafeteria is. He doesn't have much money, but he's willing to settle for a small snack. Looking around for a friendly face, he spots the girl.

Without asking if he can, he heads over to her table and pulls out a seat.]

Hey. I'm gonna sit here. [It's not a question. He's already sitting down.]

[ Sam doesn't even get a chance to respond. By the time she looks up from her game, there he is and there's not a word she can get in edge-wise about it. So...well, alright then she supposes. ]

...Okay. [ What a weird guy. Wouldn't you normally ask first...? ]

[Shuuya doesn't seem to mind what she'll think of him as he opens up the bag of chips, popping one in his mouth. There's a moment of silence as he looks up from the table at her.]

... you don't mind, do you? [Not that it'd change anything...]

[ Isn't that what you're supposed to ask before?? ]

No...it's fine. [ The rest of the table was empty and it's not as if she needed a whole one to herself. He's just thrown her off a little and Sam's still trying to figure out if he wants to talk or just a place to sit or what. He looks close to her age. ]

[Noticing her hesitation, Shuuya grins and settles his chin on his hand.]

Don't worry. I'm a reeeally friendly guy! My legs were sore from walking around, so I figured I should grab a seat to sit at.

[pumpkinbutt]

Oh...are you visiting someone here? [ Because he looked healthy enough to her all silliness of his aside. Sam relaxes a bit more in her seat and flips the lid of her DS closed. ]

[His features soften and he nods.]

I'm waiting for my mom. We both had medical exams scheduled today. [A pause as he glances at her chair.] ... what about you?

[pumpkinbutt]

[ Ah. Right, that. Sam crosses her arms and leans them again the table with a small, but wry smile. ]

Same, more or less... I had surgery a while back so they wanted to make sure things were all okay.

[deludings]

It's something to do with your legs, huh? [He's not very good at tact in the first place. Shuuya munches on another chip before sliding the bag over to her.] The surgery didn't hurt much, did it?

[ It's definitely much more direct than Sam is used to and it probably shows on her face for a minute until she's able to sit back a bit and nod. ]

...Not really, no. It was just the stuff after that was hard.

[deludings]

I see. [After another thoughtful chew:] So you probably hang around here a lot, don't you...?

[darkhourdear]

I'm sure! [Phillip beams at the girl while Gloria waits patiently next to her.] She likes being petted. [He'll scratch the dog's head a little to demonstrate, which results in her tail wagging.]

A bit, yeah. [ She doesn't looked thrilled about it but there's a resigned sort of note to her tone anyway as she cants her head a little. ] It's not that bad... A lot of people have it a lot worse.

[ It's about all the convincing Sam needs. Her lips are already pressed together in this happy little line as she reaches out tentatively for one of the retriever's ears. The first touch is very much ginger and she just enjoys the soft feel of Gloria's fur, but it doesn't take long for her to warm up and smile more brightly and turn to more proper petting. ]

She's so soft...

[Gloria's tail picks up speed, nuzzling into Sam's hand. Phillip smiles as well- he likes seeing other people happy.]

I know. We have to brush her a lot 'cause she sheds but I think it makes her fur really nice.

Oh! Her name's Gloria, by the way. And I'm Phillip. What's your name?

I'm Sam. [ 'Samhain' sounds weird when she says it out loud and honestly, Sam's just easier anyway. ]

It's nice to meet you. Do you take her for walks like this all by yourself?

[darkhourdear]

It's nice to meet you too. [He grins up at her.] Sometimes! I've gotten to do it more since my birthday. I'm eleven now! [which clearly means he's a grownup, right.]

[pumpkinbutt]

[ ...A-awww. He looks so proud of himself, Sam can't help smiling back with just a hint of amusement. ]

Wow... That's a lot of responsibility for you then.

[darkhourdear]

[He is very proud of himself. For things other than walking Gloria, too, but this is one of them.] I like walking her! Usually she's really good... I guess she just wanted more attention.
