What: Watching over the flower shop

Where: His mom's flower shop (also his home)

[It's one of those days where Lucas watches over the shop while his mom is busy. It's nothing exciting really. All he does is sit behind the counter, look at all the flowers his mom arranged, and wait for customers. And there are times when days are slow, he just picks up his DS and kill some time before anyone comes into the shop.

And that's what he's doing right now.

Once someone arrives, Lucas quickly sits up. He's better look good right now. There's a customer waiting.]

A-Ah, welcome!

[Here to buy some flowers? Pick up a flowering pot? Or maybe order something? Just tell Lucas, and he'll sure to relay it to his mom.]

[ One of the things Colette was really looking forward to this Spring was beginning her garden, and maybe setting up some potted plants outside the teashop. It was named "posies" after all -- having some pretty flowers around decoration would be nice. She steps inside the flower shop and looks around, happy to see the plants thriving. The arrangements of flowers are really beautiful. She pauses to admire them before approaching the counter. When she sees the boy she smiles. So cute! ]

I was wondering if you had any packs of seeds in stock?

Um, yeah!

[There's a quick nod to that, and then he points out to a rack full of seedling bags in it.]

It should be over there.

Oh, thank you!

[ She walks over to the rack and examines the packs. ]

Hmmm. I'm going to be starting a garden but I'm not sure which flowers I should put in it. Which are your favorites?

Favorites?

[Hmmm...]

I'm not sure if I have one... Though, my mom placed Geraniums outside my bedroom window. So I always see them every time I look outside.

Geraniums? How pretty! I do like those a lot.

Which color do you think is best?

[ She glances at him and smiles. ]

Oh, uh...

[He's kind of embarrassed to say it really. But since it's just Lucas and her...]

Um, pink I guess... They're cute and all.

Pink is a lovely color.

[ She picks the pink ones and scans the rest of the packs, picking up a few more. ]

Um... hm.

[ She seems to be debating about asking something. ]

[With Mother's Day coming up in a couple of weeks, Kenji has been charged with the task of ordering a bouquet. Aside from roses and tulips he knows jack about flowers, so he spends a few minutes wandering about the shop, looking as if he's stumbled into a foreign--and somewhat disturbing--country. Oh yeah, Midori gave him a list. He fishes it out of his pocket and frowns down at it for a few moments. Damn thing might as well be written in ancient Greek as far as he's concerned; he has no idea which flowers correspond to the ones on his list. He vainly wishes his sister were here with him, but she's hared off to another shop to buy the other half of their present.

Finally, he wanders up to the counter; he's a little surprised to see a kid sitting there, but whatever. Hopefully he'll know more about flowers than Kenji does. If he doesn't, then may the gods help them all.]

Uh...yeah, I need to order a bouquet for my mom? [He sets the list on the counter and pushes it toward the boy. The list suggests tulips as the main flower, and ferns, baby's breath, or lilies of the valley as filler.] I know tulips, but I dunno what the "filler" stuff is.

So...uhh...you got any of this stuff?

[Lucas takes a look at the list and reads out what's in it. One good thing about working with his mom is that his she usually labels her flowers for arrangement. So it's easy for Lucas to identify which is which. And the last time he checked, there's still some more of those flowers available. He'll then respond to Kenji with a nod.]

Uh-huh, sure do.

[Afterwards, Lucas grabs a pen and a piece of paper from a drawer nearby.]

Um... when would you like to have it delivered?

[reckless_fire]

You do? Great! [Kenji had no idea whether or not those were common flowers. Knowing his sister, she would have been entirely capable of writing down the most exotic, hard to find flowers in existence.]

You guys deliver? Awesome! [He scribbles his address on the bottom of the list.] There's the address. Uh...can you get it there by the 11th? That's the day before Mother's day, right?

[gentlebrother]

[There's another nod at that. He'll jot everything down on the paper he has with him after he reads the address.]

Yeah, sure, no problem at all. I'll do my best to get it delivered on time.

[Besides, he does most of the deliveries on weekends.]

Oh, right. Is there anything else you want for your bouquet? A card or...?

Oh yeah, good idea. [He grabs one of the small cards and scrawls "Happy Mother's Day, from Kenji and Midori. If Lucas can read his writing, he might recognize Midori's name, as she also attends middle school. Or he might even recognize Kenji's name if he's poked around on the network very much.]

So, what's the damage, then?

[Well Lucas checks the network once in a while, so he may have missed Kenji's name while looking through. However, the other name did catch his attention. He's pretty sure he's got a classmate by that name.]

Midori? As in... Midori Kobayashi?

Ah, uh let's see... for the bouquet that's...

[Insert a price here, along with the delivery fee. Rest assured, it's not too high anyway.]

[Hajime walks into the store, but he's on the phone and hasn't really noticed Lucas yet. He'll give the boy an absentminded nod at the greeting, but he's focused on trying to wrap this conversation up.]

...yes, Mitsuko, I know what to get. No, I'm not going to--well maybe if you were so worried I'd get the wrong thing, you could have come to order them yourself.

[There's a pause.]

Look, I was fourteen, and that was funny.

[There is yet another pause, and Hajime just sighs.]

Okay, okay, no, I'll--I'm already in there, and you're always telling me not to be rude, and...just let me order these flowers, alright? Okay, yes, bye, love you too.

[And he'll hang up, look around, and seem surprised to see Lucas there.]

Ah...sorry about that.

Eheh... It's fine.

[Well, he has no idea what's going on or what he's talking about so!]

[Hajime rubs the back of his neck a bit.]

Ah...I need to order some flowers for my mom. For next Sunday.

Lemme guess, Mother's Day?

[He's going to grab a pen and a piece of paper nearby.]

Anything you want in particular, Mr. Aikawa?

Yeah. My sister decided it would be a good idea to send me to do it, and now she doesn't seem to think I'm capable of ordering such things on my own.

[But does he remember? That is the all-important question.]

Can you do a bouquet of Gerber daisies? The big, colorful ones?

[He is hoping that's what Mitsuko wanted...]

[Let's test and see if he does.]

And... what is it that you gave to her anyway?

[Don't mind him, he's curious after all.]

Ah, Gerber daisies huh? Sure thing! I'll relay that to my mom once she's done with the rest.

[With spring being here it's a good time to brighten up the apartment a little. Julien comes in, sizing up the cut flowers, and smiles.]

Hey. Good game?

Oh, uh... yeah! I managed to pass through a few stages before I could unlock a new character!

[...Whoops he's talking about games in front of a customer. He'll quickly eye on the flowers instead.]

Ah, you're getting those now?

Haha, cool! Aaaand you read my mind. I think these'll do... hmm, you have anything good for windowsill boxes? Hopefully not fragile. I don't really have a green thumb.

Uh... I'm not sure.

Maybe Geraniums would do. Mom placed a few near my window. They're pretty easy to manage.

Sounds good. And pretty enough to present to someone, too. I guess there's less concern about weeds four stories up...

Yeah, weeds shouldn't be much of a problem once it's above the ground and all.

Well um, I'd suggest more but... My mom's a lot better at that.
