He took a deep breath to steel himself, but it didn't help at all. Hesitantly, he reached out to place his hands over the wound in Xander's shoulder, cupped so he wouldn't be touching the injury directly and only the area around it.

He could do it fast or he could do it right, and he had plenty of reasons on either side. Fast to decrease the amount of time Xander had to suffer through that burning pain, or so he could get it over with and get out of there sooner, or to save energy. But it would also leave behind more scar tissue which could cause issues in the future, and there was a risk of doing more harm than good by not being careful about what he was doing.

In the end, though, he selfishly chose fast. Xander was freaking him out and he just wanted to leave. It was over in a matter of seconds. Any bone or ligament damage was untouched, but flesh and skin was repaired, though it would leave behind a significant scar.
