[ a young blonde with sharp features – no older than sixteen, probably – seems to be staring directly out of the screen with the most piercing green eyes imaginable. anyone who goes to locke city high might recognize her as ~~ffion~~ claire llewellyn, or at the very least “that one girl who signed up for as many sports as she could fit into her schedule.” anyone who doesn't can probably at least recognize her as someone who is decidedly not in the mood for this shit. ]

Whatever it is you've done, take it back.

[ she speaks in firm tones, not stumbling on any of her words. ]

I don't know what it is you're trying to do. [ she pauses – her eyes dart around the bathroom around her – before continuing. ] Maybe you have some point to make. Maybe this is just some grudge. But I don't have time to deal with it right now. We're halfway into hell week, and we've got an away game next Thursday. I can't afford to put up with-

[ “a hacked smartphone?” ”fake memories?” how is she supposed to believe someone was capable of all of this...? after a moment's delay, she exhales forcibly. ]

[ whatever this is. it's a lame finish, but it'll have to do for now. ]

[Oh, look. It's that guy who would sometimes show up to paint sets at the drama club! And who's been on the news recently for some terrorism thing but who cares about that.]

Points for attitude, but you'll have to wait a pretty long while.

Um - I do not think that you will find whoever it is you are seeking on this network.

[Kara is a bit hesitant since she's making a few assumptions here, and she doesn't want to take it too far. but she's pretty sure the girl is just talking about Numbers stuff, whiiich would make most of that icy diatribe pointless here]

[ and you're fairly sure you do, what with that name and face getting all over the news just a few weeks ago. ]

[ it's taking a moment to really comprehend. the surreality of talking with a known terrorist, much less one who's responsible for the paint-job ~~you just messed up~~, is not something you thought you'd experience. like, ever. ]

Giving you the 'welcome to the Numbers Club' speech, I guess.

[He pauses and sighs, looking very tired.]

So first things first: no, I'm not actually a terrorist. Please don't call the cops. Actually don't call the cops at all, since a lot of them are going to try to kill you if they find out you're one of us.

Where else could they be?

[ her voice may be coming off slightly more aggressive than she'd like. sorry, kara - claire's had a doozy of an hour. at least you're spot on with the assumptions, though! ]

'They' may not exist at all. We are not very knowledgeable about the origin of this network and the things it entails.

[it's a mite intimidating, but Kara has her intense politeness to fall back on so she isn't quite ruffled yet]

[ and just like that, reality sinks back in. claire visibly tenses, looking again around the room before leaning in a bit to the phone (and turning the volume waaaaay down). ]

Why should I believe you?

[ she's not going to call the cops just yet. that'd be stupid - she'd probably just get taken in for questioning with them. (is that what alan's going for?)

stumbling across some terrorist network was really not how she'd intended to spend the day. ]

We-

[ claire finally stops and steadies herself, taking in a deep breath. when she exhales and speaks again, her voice is calmer (if still a tad intense). ]

How many people are there?

I do not know! There seem to be quite a great deal, enough for me to run into two people I already knew, and of course new people continue to discover it.

[she seems pretty perky for this kind of news]

Ah, there is a guide I was given when I accessed this place the first time. Has anyone provided it to you yet?

If you'll look through the network enough, you'll find plenty of proof that I'm telling the truth.

We're all in the same boat, okay. None of us wanted to get involved with any of this. So for what it's worth, I'm sorry.

[ and though there is an implicit judgment in there, she seems to be backing off the issue. there's a silence for a few moments as she flicks through a few posts, and when she finally comes back- ]

[Ugh, being judged for things you didn't do really sucks. Alan's starting to get really sick of this terrorist thing.]

Yeah. Didn't happen to us, at least. We kind of assume it's past lives or something.

[ there's a bit of a delay - a few minutes or so - before claire responds again. by this point, she's talked enough with alan to load up a few of the network's posts. she's... still not quite sure what's going on, here, but it's obviously more complicated than she'd originally realized.

so she shakes her head before responding. ] Mm. It sounds like it'd be useful, though. [ and then, after a slight hesitation- ] Sorry for snapping earlier.

Allow me to share it, then! [she shuffles with her computer for a moment, and then a message pops up for Claire.

her expression turns into a kind smile after.]

Please, there is no need for the apologizing. It is a very overwhelming thing to discover, especially during the finals time - if I had put the numbers in a few hours earlier, I do not think I would have been so excited!

[ if you were going to get sick of being a terrorist MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE TERROR THINGS. ]

[ that explains barely anything. least of all why someone that looked exactly like her called her "father."

still, it's more than she's gotten anywhere else yet. so she bites back her disbelief and keeps moving forward. ]

[ unrelated people are personally apologizing? this is backfiring more than she'd expected. ]

[She doesn't know L, which is probably a good thing and less of a headache for everyone involved.

However, she has gotten his attention with her post's suspicion and her obvious raised hackles.]

To my knowledge, it isn't a trick or an attempt at sabotage. It's a shock, initially, but you should be able to recover from it before your finals.

Something like that. Or it might be something totally different, who even knows.

[He shrugs.]

[ she chuckles, almost nervously, at that. ]

It's- badly timed, for sure.

[ she drops silent after that, and kara won't get much of a response for a few minutes - claire's busy combing that faq for any information she can find. this is kind of a big deal, after all! but when she's finished looking through (and reading a few of the comments attached), she finally speaks up again. ]

Thank you for this. It's- still a lot to take in, but having it all in one place helps.

seeing the anonymous text on the screen certainly doesn't make her any less suspicious, even if the other responses she's been receiving have been helping some on that front. still, she tries to treat it the same way she's been treating the other posters - who knows? if what they're saying about the cops is true, this person might have the right idea. ]
