So with all of the nastiness going around, I figured now is a good time to get in shape and learn some self-defense. I've been taking Judo since I was a boy so I know a few tricks that have practical application. Furthermore, I know some good exercise programs, ones that can be done in the safety of your home or in populated safe areas, I usually jog around LCU for example. Is anybody interested? I'd like to get a few people going, it's more fun and worthwhile in larger groups.

I took a self-defense class my freshman year, would it be anything like that?

Throws, no. This was more... if someone tries to grab you, quick jabs, or how to use your keys for self-defense.

[Whatever the opposite of "in-shape" is, L is probably it.]

I want to know more about the ones that can be practiced in the safety of one's own home.

So long as you're not planning on teaching classes at 5 in the morning, I might look into it. [Yes, she remembers that.] I've been meaning to start exercising anyway, and the self-defense training definitely wouldn't hurt, all things considered. But would someone my size still be able to use any of it? I don't think I could really lift anyone, honestly.

I'm in track but I don't really know how to defend myself at all.

You brought up the possibility first, not me.

When will you be available. I have school during the week but the winter holidays are coming up!

It's a studio apartment, and I don't have many possessions.

I have practices on Wednesday and Thursday but I'm free usually after four. [She sounds excited!]

After three? I could do that. That's actually a civilized time of the day to be up and active.

I'm usually up until 1 in the morning studying, that would probably be a bad idea. I'm lucky if I can walk to class before a cup of coffee without tripping over myself in the morning. Besides, it's cold.

Sounds good.

But really, is 5am necessary for jogging? Why not, you know, during the day, after you've had time to wake up.

I've been to it once. If I get lost I can always ask for directions! Oh- I'm Holly.

[Curiously:] Do you run in the mornings, or the afternoons?
