[The feed turns on to a certain redhead, sitting in what looks to be her living room. There are papers about, and, from the corner of the screen, one might be able to see a somewhat disheveled mess of books and whatnot on a bookshelf; a few things are toppled over. In the background, you might be able to make out the news playing on the television. Elly herself looks a bit wound up.]

Did... Is everyone okay? That was... definitely something. I didn't think we got earthquakes out here, outside of the freak one a few years ago. Nothing's really damaged here, a few things knocked off the shelves at the most. Mimi won't come out from under the bed. Anyone with pets know how to get her out? She won't even talk to me right now. I hope she doesn't think this is something I did because I caught her on the counter again earlier today...

[She stops, very noticeably chewing on her bottom lip for a moment before speaking again.]

I can't offer much, but if anyone is in need of assistance, I can check in. I'm a medical student, so I do have some training. I heard it was worse near the Tuning Towers. That can't be a coincidence. But especially for those people around there, is everything all right?

[Yeah, the more she talked, the more awkward she felt. Most of these people were strangers, and offering condolences and assistance outside of a hospital setting just felt weird.]

[She felt terrible. What could she do? Reaching over, she tried dangling a toy in her direct line of vision.]

I would say as long as you act calmly with her, she ought to come out when she feels confident enough.

Cats are so much more work than dogs. [Especially talking ones.] Thanks, I'll try that. I thought for sure coaxing her out with food would work.

That's good. I notice that the amount of damage varies from person to person. Some areas were hit harder than others, even those in close proximity to each other.

I don't know much about animals, but it might be best to let her calm down on her own for now.

[....Thud.

There is now a cat paw just baaaarely peeking out from under the bed, planted quite firmly on the toy.]

I've tried, but she's been there for a long time. I'm worried.

How are you holding up? I imagine you're feeling better by now. Not too shaken up?

[Elly jerks the toy away, moving back a little and throwing it again. She'll coax her out one way or the other.]

I didn't hit my head, at least!

Maybe you can lure her out with food or something? Or her favorite toy.

[And the toy has been snagged! If Elly tries to pull it out, she'll be dragging the cat along with it.]

That's good. I don't want to see you back at the hospital for a long time. [She smiles.]

I tried food, but that's been an ongoing battle with her. A toy maybe... That's a thought.

[There's a small, surprised mew, but for the most part she seems to be still intent on killing that toy good. She's got it caught tightly between her forepaws and is kicking at it frantically.]

Cats are quite temperamental. They are referred to as 'little people in fur coats' for a good reason, yes?

I wonder why. You would think damage would be the same all over, at least in buildings near one another. Construction perhaps?

It's worth trying. But your cat's probably not even used to earthquakes so she'll probably need time.

Probably not. She's a young stray, pretty talkative, so the quiet is a little unsettling. Although I don't miss her badmouthing my friends.

I think many of us are. The bombing is still rather fresh as well after all. It seems like we never fully get over one event before another occurs.
