[closed] two cops walk into a starbucks

Who: Karl Aurion, Nick Burkhardt
When: Nov 15, early morning
Where: Starbucks
What: Two cops meet after last night's circus at the police station.

[The thing every morning needs is a nice cup of coffee. Yes, the caffeine makes for the perfect thing to wake before having to deal with kids. Then again, he'll take dealing with the kids in school than at the station last night.

Karl almost hums as he enters the coffee shop. Being undercover had never felt as nice as it feels right now. Not having to come in to deal with this, being unable to come in to help due getting a lead in on his investigation (not actually a lie) and then leaving a fun, if smug 'as you have said before, kids are no problem to deal with so my aid is unnecessary' final text message: all so nice. No matter what happens today, it's already a good day just because of all that.

Much as he hopes they didn't do much to get noticed, part of him hopes they raised some hell. Oh and that they accomplished the rescue without getting caught or seen, of course.]

[This morning is going to need about three cups of coffee, the way yesterday went.

Nick could have done his best to make sure that he was out of the station as much as possible, of course, given that he had advanced knowledge of what was going to happen, but he hadn't wanted to. For one, he was being a little be over paranoid, and worried that'd make him look suspicious. For another, he wanted to help, and he wanted to keep the other detectives safe, just in case. So if there was stuff to be done outside of the station, Nick hadn't been the one to do it.

At least the headache was mostly gone.

He's on his way out with his coffee when he spots Karl coming in.]

You look almost pleased with yourself.

[He makes an attempt at a smile, but it probably comes across as more of a grimace.]

Unfortunately, no, but I think the worst is that I really only have myself to blame. I figured I'd... rather have myself there than someone else, just in case.

[He can't help something like a chuckle at that.]

You know, I'm pretty sure you're the only one who's called me noble in a while.

[But that hits it pretty much on the head there, and Nick nods.]

Exactly. All things considered, it was frustrating and a giant headache, but it could have been worse.

[He grins slightly.]

Believe me, I don't envy you your job. I'll take the homicide department any day.

[Though occasionally, managing a group of detectives does almost feel like managing teenagers.]

Nothing serious. I'm not sure those printers will ever be the same, though.

Amen to that.

[His smile turns wry.]

Someone hacked into the older wireless ones. They were backed up for hours, spewing out constant repeats of whatever anyone tried to print.
