The Fake Grape Stomp

Who:Bakura and anyone~!
When: All day Sunday.
Where: Around Locke City, especially the arcade
What: Bakura took up Julian's offer and got his hair dyed kool-aid grape and decided to show off that and his "new" trench with a stop around town.

It might have been a little warm for a black trench coat but the swish of the open coat helped any heat that it pulled in escape and honestly, Bakura was enjoying himself a bit too much to care. The hair dying had gone pretty well, and even if it wasn't as dark as he had hoped, it did make his hair look like it was intentionally a weird colour instead of just being... white, and with the summer growth it was even longer than normal, which just felt right, oddly enough.

...the sneakers ruined the badass effect, though. But whatever, he didn't have stompy boots and wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to bother with them. He wouldn't have even bothered with the trench if it hadn't shown up, but since it had...

He couldn't shake the lingering smell of that grape koolaid, however. He was pretty sure it was all in his head -- or nose even!-- after sitting with that stuff soaking into his hair for so long.

Most of the day was spent in and out of the arcade, with his usual evening stop at the gym. Not that he had too much aggression to get out, as he was actually in a pretty good mood, all things considered! But he couldn't let himself get soft~

It had been a long weekend for Hajime. He still wasn't happy about having visited the mines again, although so far, nothing too terrible had come of it. There hadn't been any other traps. That was reassuring.

Even if it was reassuring, that didn't mean he didn't need to burn off some steam. He'd been driving around town on his motorcycle, doing nothing more than wandering aimlessly and burning gas. He had stopped for the moment by the arcade, taking that opportunity to pull the bike over to the curb and take a drink from the water bottle he'd been toting around. It was a hot day, and Hajime didn't want to get dehydrated on top of everything else.

It was as he was taking this drink that he spotted Bakura--and Bakura's hair--only to narrowly avoid pulling a rather messy spittake. Instead, the spittake that was not to be turned into a coughing fit of surprise.

Mort, for his part, had spent the day in the park or in various coffee shops, going about the routine of a middle-aged man who couldn't bear to put his work down for too long but who also felt like he was getting cooped up in the office. He'd had a productive day, and he felt satisfied as he started his walk home. He was carrying a briefcase that contained his notes and things, looking like nothing at all was the matter...

...until he passed by the gym and couldn't help but notice a familiar figure with an unfamiliar hair color. Was this a cry for help? Had Bakura had another blackout incident and made poor life choices? ~~Inquiring minds~~ the doctor who was only concerned for his patient's welfare had to know. "Bakura...?"

"Heeeeh, I didn't know you rode!" Bakura grinned as he approached. He was oddly pleased by that near spit take, even if it was one of his friends doing it.

The teen turned, good mood all but evaporating at the familiar voice. "What?"

"Yeah, I've been riding for years. Ever since I could get my license." Hajime coughed a couple more times. The blue racing bike he was standing next to was kind of old, but he kept it running in good shape.

He jerked his head towards Bakura's hair. "What's up with the new look?"

Oh, good. He hadn't completely misidentified the teen. "...that's a new look for you, isn't it? Very..." Quick, quick, think of a word there that wouldn't horribly offend him, quick, quick... "...purple."

"Aaa..." Bakura rubbed the back of his neck slightly. "Julian offered to dye it, so I figured why not?" he admitted with a small laugh. "Better than just white."

"... how observant of you to notice..." Bakura replied, tone deadpan as he made a face.

Hajime had to grin a little at that. "Pretty gutsy color choice you've got going there. Not bad." Really, walking around with purple hair wasn't for everyone. He certainly wouldn't have been doing it in high school, even if he would have been able to give anyone who bothered him a bit of a fist to the face for their trouble. "Have your grandparents seen it yet?"

Hey, he was still worried. It was a deviation from normal behavior and that's not good...although this could still be a bit of normal adolescent exploration. "Is there any special reason you dyed it purple?"

So he was prying. Prying was how Mort ~~did his job~~ showed he cared.

"Oh yeah, I got it done yesterday and warned them in advance," Bakura assured with a grin. "Grandma said may as well get away with it while I can as a teen than go through that phase when I'm looking for a job later. And purple looks far more normal than white does, you know? There's got to be at least 4 different shades of blue walking the halls at school on any given day, but only the one head of white. Ignoring the teachers."

"Because red would have faded to pink, why do you care?" Bakura returned. He did not want to get into the mess that was his insecurity of his hair with Mr. Nosey. At all.

Marisa had gained a habit of checking the ground for roaches before getting out of her truck at the Gym. It only had to happen once to leave a big impression, after all.

Tonight she arrived at the same time as Bakura and saw him biking past with purple hair and a trench coat when she looked up from the thankfully bug free ground. She froze, staring silently in confusion. Were those sneakers?

What else would anyone be biking to the gym in?

He looked up as his bike slowed to a stop. "Hey, Marisa!" he waved. "Good timing~"

Hajime nodded in approval. "Better to give them a little bit of warning first. And it's cool that she actually gave it." He was fairly certain either of his parents would have hit the roof if he'd done something like that at Bakura's age, regardless of whether or not he'd asked for permission. "Hey, you never know. Some guys might want to bleach to white just for something different. Grass is always greener on the other side and all that."

"It's just an unusual color." And unusual colors sometimes meant unusual things. "Lavender is preferable to pink, then?"

He wondered how he had even gotten into this conversation, really.

"Of course. Anything's better than pink."

There was a faint smile at that. "Yeah. Well. They aren't stuck with it, so," he shrugged. "And my grandparents are really good with stuff like that. Long as I ask and it's nothing that's going to cause trouble, they're usually okay with it. And it helps that this should wash out in less than a month too.

[Akito's calmed down regarding the Numbers Club weirdness, even though it's still hanging around the back of his mind. But that certainly doesn't mean he won't continue to drop by the arcade for some fun every once in a while.

It's when he's looking around for a good game to start when he notices the purple hair and, after a second, figure out where exactly he's seen that face before. They didn't really chat at Marisa's party, but he definitely remembers this guy, even if he'd had white hair then.

She abruptly broke out into guffaws. It took her a minute to catch her breath enough to speak. "What the heck did you do to your hair!?"

[[Bakura looks up from his game with an almost sheepish grin]] Thanks! A friend did it for me.

"Whaaaat, it doesn't look that bad!" he returned, unable to help from laughing a bit as well. "Just didn't want it to be white anymore. I think it's an improvement, don't you?"

"Yeah, seems like something that isn't permanent would be an easier sell." Hajime nodded and wondered why Bakura hadn't just dyed his hair back to black or another more normal color if the white hair bothered him, but he refrained from asking. Didn't want to pry. "How'd you do it, anyway?"

That was as good a way of asking, "am I crazy, or do I smell grapes?" Because the wind shifted, and Hajime could have sworn he got a very faint whiff of grape, but that could have been his imagination or something from somewhere else.

"Eh...?" Bakura blinked before pulling forward a chunk of his hair to take a deep sniff. "Aaaah! It should have washed out!" he exclaimed, utterly horrified. "I washed it three times when I got home just to make sure all the smell was out!"

"Is there some special occasion that would require purple hair? A concert of some sort, perhaps?" This wasn't a gang initiation thing, was it? Bakura didn't seem the type.

Was this another personality coming out and deciding purple hair was a good idea?
