[Roxy sighs heavily as she walks into the clinic. She is sober for once (you can't visit a doctor drunk, they'll get mad at you and also it'll mess up the equipment or something) and it is very much an unpleasant change. She's not too hungover - maybe the occasional twinge of pain, she only had two drinks - but she is tired, having stayed up late the previous few nights talking to people on the network.]

Hey, this is the network clinic, right?

[Roxy seems much more chipper, having finished her visit and being reassured that her eyes aren't going to make her kidneys spontaneously explode. She's been chatting energetically with Thad about anything and everything, gesturing wildly and smacking the occasional passerby with a stray hand.

She sees DJ, and waves excitedly.]

Hey! Hey, DJ, it's me, Roxy!

[ooc: roxy -> dj -> thad]

[ DJ's hanging around at their meeting place, looking down at his phone, when Roxy and Thad show up. He glances up in surprise when he hears a voice calling. ]

Oh, hey. How'd it go?

[Thad is pretty pleased as punch to meet up with Roxy and also have the doctor visit go so well. He won't lie and say he wasn't nervous about the meet up. He didn't have a whole lot of people his age he could call his friend, and even fewer were those that genuinely didn't give a shit about the whole famous thing, but talking to Roxy had so far been nothing but a lot of fun and he was visibly loosening up.]

[You know, until he remembered they were meeting up with this DJ character. He frowned when he saw the guy and was immediately reminded of the strange occurrence that happened during their conversation. He was pretty hesitant to go any further than grudging acquaintance on that fact alone.]

[But he was going to be nice, for Roxy's sake. He gives DJ a nod in greeting but otherwise remains quiet.]

[Thad generally knew when not to be overbearing with concern about her drinking habits, but that didn't mean he wasn't concerned. It was hard not to show it when you were actually in person. Which- honestly he was still a little jittery about.]

[Its different meeting someone in person regardless of how long the two of them spent rping together over the internet. He just kind of hopes that he measures up IRL like he does online.]

What was the doctors name, do you recall?

His name is Aaron Strider.

[And Aaron steps out into the small waiting-room, a sheaf of paper in one hand.]

And yes, this is the network clinic, though you'd do well to keep that a bit quieter. What seems to be the trouble today?

Can I get my eyes looked at? [She gestures toward them.] Just so I know it's not a sign of the black death or something. Fuckin' DJ...[She trails off, muttering something that sounds suspiciously like the word "dickprince", then brightens.] Anyway, yeah, Thad's just here 'cuz he's cool.

[wonk]

[Roxy grins and hugs him, squeezing tightly.]

Great! Also, fuck you, my kidneys are gonna be fine and you suck.

[She lets go, and points a thumb back at the other boy.]

This is Thad, I met him a few years back. Play nice, alright?

[synchronous]

[ Oh, a hug. That's weird and awkward. He squeezes back briefly before pulling away, snickering a little. ]

Hey--

[ And then he gets a better look at Thad. Oh. Ohhh. He isn't so bad on the eyes after all. He kind of stares. ]

[His ears burn a little at being overheard and he moves a bit closer to Roxy.]

Emotional support, you know, in the ah, chance that pink eyes really are a sign of kidney combustion.

[He quirks a small grin in Roxy's direction.]

[He's staring at him, why is he staring at him? Those nerves are suddenly kind of worse and he looks around and hunches his shoulders, uncomfortable. Don't think about the memory, don't think about the memory or else he will get more.]

What? ...I-Is there something on my face?

Someone's been telling you stories, I imagine. Well, come on then. I'll take a look.

[He'll beckon, then lead the two to an examining room, all business now.]

Was it the color of your eyes that changed, or something else? And was it preceded by any kind of strange sensation?

[Roxy grins, and it is that specific grin grinned only by those who have just presented a skeptic of their claims with irrefutable evidence that they are right, and are now wallowing in just how much they will be able to lord it over the skeptic.

Yeah, she's just a little smug.]

Fuckin' told you.

[ Stupid sexy Thaddeus.

DJ clears his throat and glances back down at his phone. ]

Anyway, glad to hear you're not dying.

[wonk]

I think just the color, after I saw this chick during the orientation meeting for school. I think it might've been my cousin, but idk, I was really sleepy from jetlag.

[Roxy was actually hungover, but damned if she's telling a doctor that.]

[Thad will refrain from chiming in. He follows along, sliding his hands in his pockets.]

Did you not receive any unsettling memories from it, Roxy?

[What is going on, he doesn't get it. Whatever it is, he's embarrassed and his ears are burning, screw you guys.]

Oh, nothing. Just that he'd see why you got those magazine spreads.

[Roxy is perhaps the only person in this situation who can say she has no regrets, and she revels in it.]

[ Do they have to talk about that. Can't they talk instead about the weird mashed-potatoes network or Roxy's pink eyes or?? ]

Anyway.

[Thad is a fan of this idea. He will emphasize this in the way he buries his face in his hands and whines dramatically because Roxy brought up the damn magazine spread again.]

[He would really rather forget that whole debacle happened, okay? Okay.]

Anyway! Let's talk numbers or maybe coffee or anything really that has nothing to do with this entire subject!

[Roxy snickers, but decides to let it go. She's mostly gotten DJ back for the kidneys thing by this point.]

Alright, fine. So DJ, what'd you get with your mysterious network code?

[synchronous]

[ Coffee? He saw a Starbucks down the street. What if he started leading the way there. ]

It was this weird -- I don't know, memory of a thing that never happened. I was swimming in some underwater city.

[Now that the subject is clear of him he's a little less of a disaster and he falls in line beside them, hands in his pockets.]

Someone was talking not too long ago about these occurrences on the network. They called them echos and someone suggested they were visions of a past life.

[Roxy actually blinks at that one.]

Wait, like reincarnation?

I didn't think this was, like, religious or anything.

That would imply there was some underwater city with modern styles of architecture some time in the past. I kind of doubt it.
