[Underwater it was deeper than he'd thought-- what he'd thought was shallow water sloped down suddenly into a trench. But with the noonday sun strong on the surface, he could just make out Shou through the stinging seawater.
Riku swam towards where he'd drifted with the waves, wrapping an arm around Shou's chest. His lungs were starting to burn. He hadn't gone underwater like this since school. But there was a shelf here, solid rock. Riku got a foot on it, kicking off. Just like before, that took over, light washing over him as they both shot up towards the surface the water resistance nearly nothing against the force of it.]
Hah! [Riku gasped for air as the water broke over their heads, pulling Shou up so he had an arm over his shoulders and his face was above the water.] Shou! [What had just happened? He... was he unconscious?] This isn't-- come on, wake up!
[Riku tried to shake him a bit. This couldn't be happening. He'd been just fine. They were using water guns. He couldn't... not another one. He couldn't let someone else die right in front of him. And Shou had swallowed water.
Thankfully they weren't too far away from shore. Riku started for it, hauling Shou awkwardly along until they got to the shallows again, sand underneath them.]
