It takes her a while to speak, but when she does, her voice is endlessly soft, accented heavily. If you recognize a southern German accent, she is basically a stereotype of it. ]

Yes, I am. I've been studying this language since I was a child, in the hopes of finding a translating job.

Is it your native language? Forgive my assumption, but it's rare that I find Americans who are multilingual.

Since March. It's been pretty difficult getting settled down-- I swear, if I have to deal with one more government agency wanting to quadruple check my papers to make sure I'm here legally, I think I'll go absolutely crazy.

How long have you been here? Why did you choose Locke? I came here for the University.

Hah! Yes, the government here is not the most efficient thing. Joining the Army on a green card was a headache.

About 18 years now. I came as a teenager with my parents. The Army chose Locke for me, but I liked it enough to stay.

What are you studying? [he assumes something to do with linguistics, since she said she wanted to be a translator, but he'd rather ask than put the assumption out there and be wrong]

English. I haven't made a very good start of it, though. The UN's paying for me to stay here for a year or two, so hopefully I'll start to pick it up sometime soon.

Are you still in school? Or are you out and about, being useful to society?

Also, yes about the scholarship! Although, I don't think it's because of anything I've done in particular. Sometimes, when you apply for these scholarships, they seem completely random. I feel sorry for those more qualified than I am-- I took their spot! But I like it here, so I don't feel too guilty. :)

Ah! But you know Hindi, too. That makes you wise, as well. In fact, I'd argue that your wisdom must be innate, seeing as how Hindi was your first language!!

Besides, being a nurse is no small feat. One of my older brothers dated a nurse for a while, but she was always working-- the poor girl had no free time outside of her job. You must be very determined to help people to have a job like that.
