So, I have a couple questions for you guys, and they're kind of important.

[She frowns a little.]

Big, giant, number one question is this: am I gonna get a computer virus for putting that number into Wikipedia? I mean, I'm kinda renting this computer, and while I don't mind crashing Wiki, I'm pretty sure a lot of people are going to mind that very much.

[Maria shrugs, looking a little guilty. Mayyyyybe she shouldn't have put the number in her friend's laptop...oops.]

Second question, was that weird pink light normal for you guys? 'Cause it's kinda unusual for Las Vegas.

[The girl pauses for a second. She's missing something...oh, yeah.]

[Nick is talking in a slightly hushed tone, mostly because his parents and brothers are all home and he doesn't want them to know about the network.]

I don't think you'd get a virus from the number, at least. It's almost as if this place isn't even part of the internet.

[He frowns a little, thinking for a second.] That far west now...? I don't think it's really normal on this side, but it happens sometimes.

[She can respect that.]

Oh, good, then I don't have to wipe my friend's browser history, too.

[Maria smiles a little.]

Only sometimes?

[He shakes his head.] Probably not.

Yeah, I think it's happened twice? Maybe three times in the last year. [Nick shrugs.] Basically nothing at all is normal.

[She laughs at that.]

Weird is the norm around the City of Sin, so I guess I'll fit right in! What's your name?

[And that makes him smile a bit.]

Oh yeah, sorry. I'm Nick Angell. From Locke City if that wasn't obvious yet.

I think, like, 99 percent of my conversations on this thing has been with Locke people. Speaking of that, if I put this number in my phone, does it count as making a long-distance call?

It was 100 percent us until you guys got the pink lights. And...I don't know. Probably not, but I haven't been able to try it on mine.

Yay, now we get to experience the same weirdness you guys do. 'Cause Vegas isn't weird enough all on its own. [She grins wickedly.] Obviously, the two of us need to find this out just so we know we won't get billed for it.

[He grins a little himself.] You've got a point. This probably wouldn't have made the news like it did if it was happening Atlantic City. [And then he runs a hand over his head.] I'd try, but my parents look at who puts what on the bill pretty closely.

[Maria shrugs at that.]

My parents will probably ground me for it, but I can use this number on a piece of paper, right? I won't be completely bored since they don't know about this network.

You can, as long as they don't monitor everything you do for using a strange number once.

I've put stranger in my phone. I think they're used to it by now.

Oh. [He's clearly not sure how to feel about this. Yeah, he hated how stifling his parents were but...just how strange was she talking?] Uh, good for you?

[It's a good thing that Nick will soon learn at least a tiny bit of just how strange Maria can be.]

All in the name of science. You got an email address? It's probably easier if I just email you about how successful the experiment is.

[It is good. No matter what he thinks at first.]

That would be faster, at least. [He has no idea why it needs to be, but considering these people are apparently his compatriots he should be more trusting of them. He grabs a pen and a piece of paper and writes for a few seconds.]

Here, it's pretty simple but this is easiest.

[Writing this down on a piece of paper.]

Dang, you've already got a professional email for whenever you apply for a job. I'm 16 and I still haven't made one for work only.

[One side of his mouth starts to curve into a frown.]

Uh, I wouldn't call it professional. That's the one I've always used.

[If they were actually sitting next to each other, Maria would've poked him in the side.]

It sounds like one. I mean, I would give my employers an email like that instead of, I dunno, cardgamechampion90210. You know?
