I guess I'm a couple days late checking in. I was a bit... indisposed. [Hungover, indisposed... same thing.] I'm alive and in one piece, obviously. Don't think my cover was blown, either. How about the rest of you? Kids? Look, a lot of shit's going down, and it's not much, but there's some space in my apartment if someone needs to lay low for a bit.

Someone I know. No offense, but I'd rather not have a complete stranger with who-knows-what powers sleeping on my couch.

Oh. And for anyone who was taking bets... [She holds up a green, glowing hand - glowing right through the gloves, actually] These babies are blasters.

So I might be a ghost.

Do they cause pain to you if not immediately thrown, by any chance?

Familiar, huh?

Nah, I don't throw them, exactly. [Well, not yet. She hasn't gotten that echo back, exactly.] I either just glow, like this, or it's this full-on energy blast thing. That, uh, isn't exactly indoor-friendly, or I'd demonstrate. I don't get an in-between setting.

I see. I ask because -

[it'd be easier to just show her, wouldn't it? Kara holds up a hand and focuses on the feelings that carried her through the Wise Snake battle; with a distinctive noise a starbolt flickers into life, forming a sphere around her hand.

she dismisses it almost as quickly as she summons it, the wince of pain making it obvious that whatever these things are they do not play nice with the human body]

And I do not know if I am simply using them improperly or something more difficult to remedy. They seem to be exclusively projectiles, however, so I am fortunate in that regard.

[she's having enough problems tearing doors off hinges accidentally, she doesn't need 'only mega destruction' lasers to add onto that]

Projectiles, huh? That's...

[She freezes, getting that far-away look that tends to come along with an echo.]

Well. I, uh, should be able to do that, I suppose. I haven't managed yet, though. Maybe because I only just realized I could. I really wish these stupid echoes were more predictable.

As do I! It makes practicing to discover these things extra troublesome, yes? [she laughs, a little ruefully]

I was fortunate enough to understand how to summon these, but I still do not know what triggers the last power I was granted.

Let me guess... other than giant snakes attacking the city, right?

[she laughs]

Yes, I am hoping for something less dangerous and easier to replicate. It would be quite troublesome to keep seeking out monsters every time I wished to use my abilities.

No kidding. I think I can use mine anytime, but they're not exactly... indoor friendly, and I haven't found a place that's quiet enough to practice and not get noticed. Especially with how antsy everyone is right now.

...makes me think I should just break into an abandoned warehouse or something.

[What she wouldn't give for a nice, secret hideout, sometimes.]

Would such an intrusion be possible? It would be useful to have somewhere to become more skilled without endangering others, but considering how things are I would not wish to invite more trouble.

[all they need right now is to get hauled away for accidentally torching an old warehouse]

Oh, I'm sure it's possible... if you know how to pick the right spot and not get caught.

[Hm. Maybe she should hold off until she got a few more of those skills that had landed her alternate self in jail.]

I am afraid that I am not skilled in either department. [she sighs deeply]

Perhaps it is for the best. I would not wish to harm anyone.

I'll let you know if I come up with any safe options, all right? In the mean time, we'll have to avoid blasting anyone, no matter how much they tick us off, am I right?

That would be very wise, yes! Although I do not think that I will have to worry too much about it on my side - I can only cause them to appear when I feel righteous fury.

That is quite unfortunate, although I can commiserate somewhat! I did not receive any knowledge of how to utilize the first ability I was granted; even now I am still accidentally crushing things when I do not mean to.

[she looks a little sheepish as she laughs. man, the number of places she'd had to edge away from subtly because she pulled a door off its hinges...]

Crushing things? That sounds even more inconvenient than the glowing. Yeesh. At least I can keep the blasters holstered, most of the time.

Yes, it is...most bothersome. I have been very fortunate that it has not caused any notable chaos as of yet.

Yes! But I must say, for all of its inconveniences, I am very grateful to possess it.

I cannot deny this, but I suppose that everything happens for a reason! So long as we receive the instructions eventually I cannot be too discontent.
