With connection made, the writing stops there as voice is picked up.] Now - before you ask me, I did my research... Spent some time looking back through this thing. [Something of a self-directed, paced mutter.] Took me ages to figure out how someone "scrolls" on a page in a notepad.

All right, though. My question is... How the hell're you supposed to know what your first... "Echo." [Air-quotes made where he's sitting. Picks up casually enough, quick.] Did to you, anyway?

Can't say I recall any strange... "pulsing" deja vu moments, joined by, what... out-of-body experiences -- "visions" during my lifetime. What I'm getting is, I've been alive for seventy-eight years and I could've had my Echo in any one of them.

Is that right?

I think so? honestly I didn't get a memory or anything for my first one either. I just felt sick.

[A drawn, thoughtful "Hrrmm."]

How did you recognize it for what it was after? Did you have to go by the feeling?

Someone else was able to describe the feeling perfectly for me so that was pretty convincing. I'm just not sure I really get what everyone means when they talk about memories or past experiences since mine wasn't anything like that.

Your past self must have been sick at some point in their life... [Beat.] (Just a joke.)

I can't begin to know what to make of it, either. I have a gun and a so-called memory so far, but that seems to be common stuff.

[ Ohhh, if only he knew. Sam actually pauses for a minute or two, lips pressed together. Joke yes, but...still. Urgh. ]

You should probably get it registered if its not already.

[He's not in position to suspect a thing.]

I'm wondering if I'd get questions... It's an antique clockwork pistol. I don't know where I'd tell anyone I got the thing.

But yeah -- I should look into it. [Another brief pause, and although it didn't suss anything out:] Thanks for answering, by the way.

Oh yeah you're welcome? if it helps any you're actually one of the more normal people on here so far. it's kind of nice to have someone who's gone through the same thing as you.

No, I'm just a conservative old goat. [That was also meant to be a joke.] Agreed, though.

[ Hmm...names again. Sure both Bill and "Sam" are fairly common, but she still feels like she should used something else. Some sort of handle... Maybe the last few digits of her number? There's a few zeroes before them after all. ]

Haha thanks! just typing out '23' seemed kind of weird.

[ That and there's another Sam she's met--and just that had been enough to weird her out a little. ]
