What: There's always school.

[Although that earthquake razed local businesses, the school remains. And Pierce isn't entirely surprised when school functions continue as normal, for the students who weren't injured or killed. As usual he's right on time, but his mind is far from classroom lectures.

So when there's a free period, he wanders the campus. With all the awful things going on, taking a walk helps to clear his head a bit, at least to a degree. He can't get in touch with some of his friends, and he doesn't know why that is. People are reported injured and killed.

He feels pretty powerless.

But he needs to function, needs to act okay. So he uses his time to shore up his seeming-morale and get some things done]

[ooc: Pierce can run into people anyplace on campus, so when posting here, just indicate where you're at and what you're up to]

[Still new to this Echo business, it's still difficult to believe that the earthquake had been caused by one of them (it sort of made sense; earthquakes of that degree rarely happen on the east coast, right?). He didn't like to be too concerned about the cause, though -- it was more important that people were hurt or killed, and he's quiet as he looks around and wonders how many of those people were people he might've known, or people his friends had known. He's quiet as he goes through the day, just watching people.

But he cheers up the moment he sees Pierce at the end of the day, nearby one of the gates. The thought of the earthquake still weighs heavily in his mind, but it's with a smile that he approaches his friend. He was planning to check that network but he puts the plan and his phone aside to throw his arm over Pierce's shoulders.]

Pierce! Hey, Pierce!

[Having lapsed back into the realm of his thoughts, Pierce is jarred back to reality with the greeting. It's accompanied with a stumble, but he catches himself with a sheepish smile. Sometimes, he doesn't even realize how zoned out he's getting when he thinks on things lately]

Hey, Anthony! Glad to see you're alright.

[It's a tremendous relief, in fact. He's been having trouble getting a hold of people, and was thinking he'd stop by Anthony's place if it came down to it. Better to know friends are okay, or help them if they need it, than know nothing at all]

[He plasters a grin on his own face as he peels himself off him, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he rocks back on his feet.]

Yeah, I'm fine. You too -- it was rough.

You're okay right?

Yep, not a scratch on me.

[He straightens, then pauses, reflecting on that. Lifting his bandaged hand, he revises]

Nothing new, I mean. This isn't from the quake.

[No, he busted up his hand by punching a snake statue like a boss. It wasn't very effective...]

It isn't? geez, What'd you do, Pierce? It looks like you got into a fight or something, I didn't know you got into stuff like that!

... Really though, what did you do?

Not for years now, that's for sure.

[Although Pierce isn't proud of that, and he's quick to push that memory aside]

I ah...hit a statue. Not exactly sure what made me think it was a stellar idea.

... I didn't think you were the type to hit anything! Really, Pierce? Is it okay?

It was a bit of a weird situation.

[The words are punctuated with a small laugh. Really, of all the things to do...]

I'm sure it'll heal just fine, so there's nothing to worry about.

Jesus, you've got to be careful! Don't be so reckless, really.

Yeah, I'll try to be more careful. It wasn't really something I'd planned for.

[Still, he sounds as though he's taking it lightly. Then again, he often sounds like that]

Everyone in your family alright?

[Darn it Pierce why are you always so laid back.]

Yeah, they're just fine. Only a few things off the shelf, and my grandpa got surprised by he's completely fine. You?

[Because he's a glorious faker of course.

Well except he can't help but show a little concern, talking about his family]

Miles and mom were on a train during the quake. Mom says they're fine, but Miles won't answer his phone.

[And then he bounces back]

I'm sure it was pretty shocking, I can't remember it ever happening here.

There aren't a lot of earthquakes on this side of the country, yeah.

[He frowns and raises his hand to pat Pierce's arm.]

Hope he answers soon. If your mom says he's all right he probably is.

Yeah, I think you're right

[At least he's good at looking more assured than he actually feels. But reasonably speaking, he knows Anthony's very likely correct]

I'll probably get an ear-full for spamming his inbox.

[Something he sounds utterly unrepentant about]

An earful for spamming inboxes is better than nothing, right?

Say, so, to cheer you up a bit, you want to go get something to drink?

[He almost asks if he looks like he needs cheering up, because the idea of seeming like he's not okay concerns him, but he decides not to]

Sure, my afternoon's wide open. I bet you could hear the wind blow through it, like a cave.

[It's a silly, dramatic statement to be sure. Exactly what he means it to be]

You're not busy?

That sounds chilly. Make sure you keep it bundled up so you don't catch a cold.

And if I were busy, I wouldn't be inviting. Let's go!

Duly noted. Wanna walk? Ooor my car's in the back lot.

Iiii don't want to make you have to walk all the way back here just for your car, so we can drive.

I don't mind the exercise, but alright.

[He turns to veer more in the direction of where his car's parked]

That won't do, Pierce. You never know when you're gonna need to hop on that car, especially with your brother not answering the call.

Hey, I'd run across town for him, if it came down to it.

[He'd do anything for baby bro though, there are no surprises here]

Same with you, if you needed a hand or something. Car's pretty handy, but if my friends or family need me I'll make it happen.

[He'll supply a full daily dose of silly and impractical sentiments, he will]

Thanks, Pierce. I really appreciate it.

But car's handy. Car is easier. So let's take your car, okay?

Just what people do, after all.

[You care about somebody so you look out for them, he's always thought of it that way. Possibly to more of an extreme than others, but hey]

Car's over that way.

[And he's headed in that direction

[He follows, adjusting his bag on his shoulder as he goes. He makes small talk on the way, asking about how Pierce's classes are going.]

[So Pierce gives the gist of his courses, nothing terribly exciting. Naturally he takes a turn asking Anthony how classes are treating him.

Once they're in range of the car, he unlocks the doors, shrugging his pack off]

[Aside from the still missing classmate who is apparently a terrorist, nothing's out of the ordinary and that science teacher is still determined to blow up the school. He will slide himself into the passenger seat once the car is unlocked.]

[He hops in on the driver's side, adjusts the rear-view mirror as though its position has somehow changed since morning, and starts the car]

Think you're the navigator on this one. Where to?

[He grins and pulls out his phone to search for the address, just to make sure he'll take them to the right place.]

All righty, here we go--

[He will show him! It's an address. It's only like ten minutes away.]

[And this is why Anthony's a great navigator. Getting to the location's not difficult at all, the traffic relatively light once they're past the school parking lot.

Once they get there, Pierce hits the first available non-handicap parking space]

Look at that, we survived.

Oh man.

[He slumps dramatically in his seat. Totally joking.]

I thought we were a goner.

It's a miracle.

[He claps Anthony lightly on the shoulder]

Clearly owed to your navigational skills.

[How he says it all with such a serious expression is anybody's guess]

[He makes a pfffft sound.]

You got that right. I'm amazing -- and so is the coffee here. Come on!

Right, right. [He nods along, opening the door so he can get out]>/small> Let's go then.

[He follows suit, shoving his phone in his pocket and beginning the short walk toward the cafe. He'll hold the door open for his friend.] After you.

[He walks into the building and glances around. Not a place he's visited before, he's quite sure]

[It's a very small, quaint place. But not empty and pretty friendly looking!]

[Pierce gives it one more glance around with a thoughtful hum]

One mustn't underestimate what wandering the streets could let you discover.

Powers? I have multiple? Hell yeah!

You just stepped on my homework.

[You didn't notice her. There was probably no way, but there's a not-all-too-happy looking girl standing behind you. While Clear was walking around, his foot may have managed to laser in on a piece of paper Rei had dropped.]

Please stop standing on my homework.

[Pierce jumps, attention snapping first in the direction of the voice and then to the floor]

Oh, sorry!

[And with that, he's quick to bend and pick the paper up. There's a faint mark left on it from his shoe, unfortunately. But he can't change that part and simply offers her the paper]

Should've watched where I was going.

[Snatches it back quickly, with palpable malice. Okay, it's not really that palpable. She's pretty expressionless, as usual.]

It's okay.

[Squints at her paper. That's some shoe print...]

I...guess.

[He doesn't seem the slighted bit fazed by it. In fact, he matches her lack of expression with a cheerful one of his own]

I can safely say you keep your homework in better condition than most of my classmates. Hope it's not a big assignment.
