[ Like many others, Annabel discovers the network by typing her numbers into Google.

She then spends the next couple of hours digging through it so she can get her bearings and avoid looking stupid. Or surprised. Or really any emotion at all whatsover. ]

I'm new. I read the FAQ, so I'm up to speed. I won't waste time with pointless dithering about whether this is some kind of delusion.

I want to know if anyone is organizing any kind of serious resistance against the enemy forces or not. Standing by and waiting to be attacked doesn't count. If so, I'd like more information.

[ There's a small pause. ]

The general consensus is that people are not prepared to take that step.

For myself, I'm uneasy doing nothing or only responding after someone has been hurt.

So you'd agree that striking the enemy before they strike us would be the best course of action, if they hadn't already robbed us of that opportunity?
I was beginning to worry that I was the only one with a brain around.

I don't know that much about striking, but the situation does concern me.

Some people are going through bizarre and horrible things. Others have more or less stable situations. Regardless, I feel everyone is waiting for someone else to move first.

Tch. At this rate, it's more likely that this will end in slaughter than in war. I'm not sure if it's frustrating or just sad.

I may not be much of a fighter, but I won't let that happen if I can do anything about it.

Then you should try to fix the "not a fighter" thing as soon as possible. Even being able to recognise it's something to work on would put you head and shoulders above most of the rabble here.

Where do you think I ought to start?

I'd suggest looking into some self-defense classes. I attended some myself, and even a little basic knowledge can make all the difference.

I have the time, so I should be able to do at least that.

I've thought if I could get more information, it would benefit people here. But I get the feeling that will only come from going out there. In such a case, I wouldn't want to be a liability.

I think that's a very admirable outlook. Certainly one of the more promising ones I've seen thus far. Knowing your limitations and working to overcome them can only lead to good things.

I hope so. The people who are important to me...I want to keep them safe.

Even the people I don't know, I don't want them getting hurt if I can do something. Everyone is important to someone.

May I ask how old you are?
I can't help but wonder why someone with such a noble outlook hasn't been elevated to some kind of leadership position by now. Though I suppose it's possible you're just new here...

It's true I haven't accessed the network for very long, but I'm not really anything special. I just want to do what I feel is right, like anyone else.

I think you'll find that wanting to do the right thing and protect people when it's easier not to is more special than you'd think.

That would really be a shame. Whatever this is, it seems much larger than we are, so being divided that way won't help.
